RE-GIFT
Lolita: Okay, December may be a cold month, but when else do people so readily buy you presents? You know, I could use a pair of Steve Madden Pandita boots, guitar-pick earings, Parigina over-the-knee pattern tights, and a Woolrich pink plaid cowgirl shirt. Rita: While you’re at it, I’ll take a boiled wool cardigan sweater and a pair of green suede clogs. But maybe we should be asking what other people want. Lolita: Yeah, that’s the downside of December. Think of all the wasted money on terribly inappropriate gifts. That’s why I readily re-gift. Rita: I like to craft my own gifts to give. This year I’m working on driftwood mirrors with seashells. Lolita: I hope the mirrors are looking better than last year’s fruitcake. Was there really cement in that recipe? Rita: At least I don’t re-gift band’s promo CDs to the same bands that release them. Lolita: It’s obvious to me that the bands must like their own music—I just want to make them happy. Rita: Let’s see what will really make people happy—ask your friends what they want for Christmas. And if they’re Jewish, ask them what they want for Hanukkah—and just be ready to substitute in Kwanza, Winter Soltis, Ramadan, or the Boston Tea Party.
