MR. MAX’S MESSAGE – September 2010
WHY DO WE GO TO WAR? CD RELEASE
& THE NOISE 30
th ANNIVERSARY PARTY

Noise30thPosterEmail.jpg

The CD release party for Why Do We Go to War? is becoming a reality. Willie “Loco” Alexander and Barbara Koen are opening for me on Saturday, September 18, at the Blackburn Performing Arts in Gloucester. This show is also being billed as the first Noise 30th Anniversary Party. I say “first” because we are planning to have one each month for the next year. Each party will be run by a different member of the Noise staff—so far in October DJ Matthew Griffen is planning a punk show in Worcester, then Nancy Neon displays old-school Boston garage/punk, in December Kevin Finn will share his birthday with his favorite area bands, and Frank Strom will have a show in January. A whole year of 30th anniversary parties!

THE SUMMER OF 2010

Looking back on the summer—it was a lot of work—but most of it was the good kind of work. I played at a number of farmers’ markets—Georgetown, Rowley, and Merrimac. At these shows I would interview each vendor and on the spot come up with a jingle for their business, then sing to the crowd. Some came out good, some were flops. One jingle became very popular and landed on TV—it was for Fat Belly Barbeque—a family-owned business that drives their converted mail truck around to farmers markets on the weekend. I’d also have a theme song for each farmers’ market. If you know the Beatles’ fan club Christmas song, “Christmas Time is Here Again,” just sing, “Georgetown Farmers’ Market Day” to the tune and you’ll get the idea. It’s good to have a song like that to pull together a four-hour gig.
